Up and Down

Temperatures continue to bounce up and down.  Although not a huge range of temperature imbalances there is usually some sort of consistency about this time of year.  Anyway, we continue to work away on winter tasks.  The guys have finished up refinishing tee markers, and fairway yardage plates.  Today we began sanding down all the cups that are used throughout the season.  We have two full sets of cups that we use.  We rotate them every other week, this gives us a chance to bring a set in to sand down and repaint so the cups are always fresh looking.  Equipment maintenance is moving along as well.  Fairways mowers are getting a big overhaul on their reels.  Our newest fairway mower is 6 years old and our oldest 10 years old.  With the amount of use these machines get preventative maintenance is always at the forefront.  This year Junior is replacing all the bearings and bushings in the reels.  Bearing and bushings are on all moveable parts such as the rollers and the reels.  This is a very time consuming task and quite expensive as well.  Antonio has done a thorough job with inspecting most of the machinery.  Oil and all other fluids are being changed and any other repairs necessary are being documented and taken care of.
Monitoring the golf course is a continual thing as well.  Since the rain and snow melt we've been out on the course checking for any ice build up.  Only a few areas had ice formation and those were the ladies tee on 4, and the gold tee on 7, and a few fairways that run east to west and have large trees on the south side.  This ice build up is due to shade on the south side of the areas.  The limited amount of sun that reaches these areas reduces the thermal build up to melt any ice.  We have fractured the accumulated ice so that air can get through and gasses can escape.
Updates will continue to be posted on this page to keep you informed of tasks and developments.
