Annual Tree Pruning

Each year we spend some time during the winter to carry out annual pruning.  Pruning is necessary to keep our trees in good conditions but also for the safety of members, guest, and employees.  A great deal of pruning that gets done is the removal of dead wood.  Dead wood becomes hazardous as it can fall out of the tree during wind events.  Dead wood also increases the amount of labor it takes to clean up the golf course following such wind events and during the spring.  Shaping of trees are also done at this time to balance them out and clean them up giving the tree it's natural shape.  So far in the last three years we've pruned all the trees around the clubhouse as well as have worked through holes 1-6.  Today we start right at number 7 tee and will be working down 7 to number 8 and 9.  Here a few photos of the work at hand:

Willow tree between 7 ladies tee and 13 fairway.  You can see the amount of limbs cleaned out of the tree to bring it back to its shape.  Also limbed this tree up a bit as it was hanging down into the small pond.

Here is the crew addressing trees between 7 and 13 fairway.  They do all work by climbing, no use of hoist trucks.  This enables them to get more detailed and not be creating a great deal of damage to the golf course.
