As for the rest of the progress being made on the golf course; mowing frequency is still slow as the low temperatures aren't pushing much turf growth, turf is turning green though which is great to see. So far greens and fairways have been mowed twice, tees and approaches once. Depending on weather we plan on getting approaches mowed again prior to the weekend. Weekend weather looks to be great! Golf course will be prepped for play as I anticipate some excitement as Masters week always creates a bit of a buzz.
The long range forecast is looking a bit more promising than it did a few days ago, so I'm very excited about that. We need a string of warmer temps to get these soil temperatures above 45 to get things active under and above ground. Next week we plan on getting into the bunkers to get those in shape. So far we've edged them but haven't done much sand movement as these routine days of probable rain makes us apprehensive. The time has come though. Addressing poor turf areas is also on the schedule for the upcoming week. Last fall created some havoc in the rough, especially in heavily shaded and non irrigated areas. If you recall the fall was pretty dry so the trees were sucking up any water available taking it away from the turf and with poor sunlight the turfs health was already sacrificed. We've been through and fertilized these areas already but need to seed some and again we're waiting for temperatures to be adequate for seeding.
Lots of work is still on the horizon for us. I'm very happy with where we are as of today. The spring hasn't been the best but it hasn't been bad either. It has enable us to get our on the course early and accomplish a lot of the time consuming cleanup tasks so that we can focus our attention to other matters as the weather gets warmer.
