I really wish I had some exciting and happy news to report but this weather is getting to be like a broken record. For those of you that have been keeping up with the blog I'm sure each post is beginning to be redundant. So instead of going into detail with the condition of the course I'll just summarize it with one word, "WET". We remain hopeful that the extended forecast holds out showing a brief period of drying out at the end of the week and then again early next week.
If this forecast does hold true we are planning on aerifying tees and approaches this upcoming Monday. With the improvements we've made in efficiency with new equipment this will only take a day to complete. Aerification in the spring time is important in just aiding in the ability for air and gas exchange along with the propagation of new plants. That's really the only major thing on the horizon as of now. Rough mowing is gonna become quite a task when we can finally get around to it, just been way to wet. We did get our 14-0-14 Dimension application down on Monday, so I anticipate with the rain we've had and when we get some warmer days that will make the rough really pop. Drainage damage continues to come to the forefront with all the rain. We're finding areas that aren't draining as they should so we continue to inspect tile lines for breaks or plugs. The rain is also showing us where we need to invest in better drainage. This will be an ongoing improvement to the golf course as areas develop.
Again, the happy news is that XGD is helping us out tremendously. If it weren't for the system the greens wouldn't be mowed as often as they have as well as being rolled. I'm very impressed with it capabilities to keep our greens in playing condition as well as an environment for healthier turf. Lets keep hoping for a break is this miserable weather!
