Reclaiming Our Course

Today has been a very busy day with trying to get things back together following the last few very wet days.  Since Monday we've had a total of 2.36" of precipitation, I'm sure you can imagine how damp things are.  Yesterday we were able to get 26 bunkers that had standing water pumped clean and today we were busy pushing the sand back up on the sides.  Between the two days we've put 170 man hours into bunker care, now we just cross our fingers and hope the rain tonight doesn't put us right back to where we were.  Illustrated below is the guys at work along with showing some severe erosion:

Our routine task following heavy rains.  Here Refugio, Alfredo, Abel, and Antonio are pushing sand back up on the edges where it eroded away.

16 Green side bunker, shows how badly the sand washs down from the edges.
Things did begin to dry throughout the day.  Following lunch we got out and tried getting some mowing done as the predicted .5" of rain tonight would make mowing tough over the next few days.  Rain is in the forecast next week as well, this may be the only time we can get mowing done in the next week.

Today myself and Moe were able to get through the course and take a detailed look at things and look for any damage from the high winds on Tuesday night.  Unfortunately we have found a couple of trees that had significant damage done to them.  These trees are two Willows located on the left side of 3 fairway near the pond.  These two trees upon further inspection are very rotted through as well so removal may be necessary to prevent from further damage or possible injury to people on the course.  Trees are pictured below:

Large leader branch that broke off

Another Willow in same area where there is one large limb to the left that has broken off but in the middle of the tree the leader is cracked and is leaning against the far right large branch cracking the trunk

Shows where these trees are located and you can see the large leader laying down next to the tree

Things like these become large liabilities as the trees health is compromised and the safety of golfers and employees coming into play, especially with Willows and how fragile they are.

Well hopefully the rain will be gentle on us tomorrow so that we can have a good weekend here at the club.  Temperatures actually look to be temperate but then rain coming back into the forecast on Sunday night and high percentages throughout next week.  Lets hope the weatherman aren't correct on this!
