What 5 inches of rain? What cool weather? All these questions pop into the head after a few days like we've had. Summer has definately arrived and in full speed ahead. The first full week of June has us averaging 87.24 degrees with just .10" of rain. Quit a difference compared to last month where the temperature average was 67.36 degrees with a total of 6.38" of rain.
The latest heat and wind got the irrigation system going for the first time of the season. Hand water on greens and other "hot spots" is taking place throughout the rest of the golf course. This past Monday we needle tined select areas on greens and applied a wetting agent to help retain moisture in the upper area of the surface to prevent drying out so fast. These select area are places where we place sod last spring and the extensions that were put on the greens a few years back. Retaining moisture is key right now, the heat combined with the wind is drying things our very fast. The next few days with projected highs in the low 70's and uppers 60's along with a few showers couldn't come at a better time.
We've been busy the last few days getting the course prepared for tomorrows Men's Team Event. Tomorrow we will host numerous other clubs and we hope to showcase how great our golf course is. Today we have a great deal of detail work to accomplish along with wrapping up some sod work in the fairways and rough. Cooler temps and rain will also help the sod establish itself with a bit better ease.
We'll leave this one short and sweet, time for me to get back out on the course.
