The Record Has Been Broken

We've done it!  We have now witnessed the wettest April on record.  Is that a record we should be celebrating?  My feelings are mixed, we needed the moisture to recover from last years drought but to have over 8" in a month that is a bit excessive.  Just another situation we have no control over so we'll just deal with the results and move on from there.
The course is pretty wet again today, the rain throughout yesterday and last night produced just under 1".  Thankfully we were able to take advantage of a great Monday and a decent morning on Tuesday but, here we are again jumbling our plans to get through a saturated day.  We do always have plenty to due, it's just being able to do it without creating more damage than good.
Extended forecast looks promising for both the golfers and the Grounds Department.  Slight chances of rain are mixed in but nothing like what we've seen.  I'm hoping that things will begin to dry out over the next few weeks so that we can get our stuff done but also so we can let carts out on the golf course.  Projects that we've started are slowly getting closer to finishing.  The last few weeks have slowed things drastically with hit and miss days due to the rain.  I'm happy to report that more progress has been made with the Putting Green and 1st Tee project.  The extended forecast is very promising for that.
We'll continue to move along and work on meaning full tasks.  Drainage has been an ongoing adventure with cleaning lines and checking areas that are staying overly wet.  These next few weeks we are looking at ramped up cultural practices with aerification as well as verticutting and topdressing.
Until next time and stay dry!
