Always Something

Seems as though no matter what precautions we take in this business something will always arise.
Yesterday we began to notice a minor wet area in the 7th fairway, eventually becoming larger as the day went on.  Our initial thought was puddling after a heavy irrigation cycle but as it increased rather than decreased we knew something else was the cause.

First step was to isolate the area by closing all valves to the fairway to see if that helped, it didn't.  Doubled checked all valves to be sure they were tight and they were.  Next was closing the mainline in the area to see what affect that had.
We closed the main this morning and began exposing the source.  Come to find it is the line for the old irrigation system that filled with water and was releasing.  The release point was an area where the old pipe was broken when pulling new pipe.  Thankfully it wasn't a live pipe that was leaking.

Unfortunately though we need to figure out the source of the water in the pipe.  We've been dry so it wasn't from a heavy rain storm.  We are pointing to an area by the mainline, we've noticed that this area was showing some pushed up soil in the last few days.  Initially we believed it to be earthworm castings.  With everything now closed we should see things dry up, come Tuesday the mainline will be exposed to investigate if the mainline is leaking and draining into the old irrigation line.
