Along with the snow we've experienced quite the arctic chill. Last night wind chills hit the -20 range and it's been like that the last few days. Snow cover is very beneficial when temps hit that range accompanied by the winds that we've had. Yes, snow acts as an insulation and helps protect the turf from such cold air and drying winds.
Snow looks to be staying around for awhile. More snow is predicted over the weekend, and next week. Enjoy it while we can.
Here's a nice photo of the 14th hole covered in snow. You can see too parallel tracks to the right, these are from cross country skiers. A good amount of time and money was spent to keep skiers from going across the green this season but seems or request to stay off tees wasn't heard. Please, if you come out to ski do not go across the tees. If we can't seem to get cooperation cross country skiing will not be allowed.
