Spring Snow

Putting Greens Sticks in Snow
Well, I believe our initial hopes of opening this upcoming Friday are put on hold.  As I look out my office window snow is still coming down.  It's been an ongoing event throughout the day, with a accumulation of 4-5".  And here I had hopes of an early start to the season, as the last few springs haven't been so kind.

I doubt the snow will stick around long, although when it melts it will make a mess.  This is a wet snow, meaning it's not that light fluffy stuff that blows around.  Added moisture in this snow only means added moisture when melted.  The next few days seem to be quite eventful, tomorrows temperatures are to rise into the 40's and then 50's come Wednesday.  As these temperatures rise, chances of rain increase tomorrow afternoon and evening, forecasting an estimated .5" or more.  Adding this to the already melting snow will only get things more messy.

One bright point going into this upcoming melt and rain is that we've been pretty dry so far.  Dry conditions should have helped free up space in the ground to soak up added moisture.  It won't be able to handle it all but will be a big help to have the soil soak up some of the melt and rain.  So as these events take place throughout the week we'll continue to monitor conditions and come up with an alternative opening.  So, the golf course will not open as we had hoped this Friday, March 27th but rather later when conditions are favorable.
