| Aerification process; top is deeptine, middle DryJect, bottom what surface looks like before brushing and rolling. |
necessary processes not being able to be done. We are thankfully going to finish topdressing and aerifying. At the start of the day we weren't even sure if we'd be able to do that. We remained optimistic and pushed on.
As I write this it's 4:38pm, we are at a critical point in our process. Sand on the surface of the greens need to dry. This will allow us to brush the sand into the holes, roll and brush greens again to be ready to open. The rain, especially later here in the day is not allowing that. We again, remain optimistic. Equipment is set up and we continue to monitor the greens surfaces and if the sand is drying enough to brush. Pockets of sun along with wind are helping but it's taking some time. As always, we are going to do all we can to get things done so that the golf course will be available for play first thing tomorrow morning. If we cannot, we greatly apologize. Grounds and Golf departments will meet first thing in the morning to discuss the situation at hand and make any necessary adjustments and notify you through this blog along with Foretees.
- Some may ask; why push on if there was a chance of not completing? There are a few things that play into this.
- We had a hired contractor in to carry out the DryJect process, and they have no dates open for a while
- Getting done at this time gives us ample time for the greens to heal for important events in the next few weeks
- This is a necessary process for the continued long term health of our greens
As for playing conditions tomorrow; CARTS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED. More rain was received throughout the day, making this 4 days in a row of precipitation. No sunshine and minimal wind have not allowed things to dry, making the golf course very saturated. Hopefully, sunshine throughout the day tomorrow and higher winds will help things dry. This way the golf course can be made available for carts by mid week and we can get some necessary mowing done.
I know it's an inconvenience to not have carts for some but, the damage that can be created is an inconvenience to others. Any time carts can be available we make them, as it's better for all of us. We unfortunately do not drain well and we do not have a continuous path so, there will be days carts aren't allowed. There are even days maintenance staff aren't allowed carts as it's just too wet. Today would have been one of those days but since we were carrying out aerification we needed the transport. Please understand we aren't trying to prevent anyone from playing, we are just looking to protect the golf course for the long-term. Damage created early season is damage that sticks around for some time, so springs are even more challenging.
