Dear Member,
Over the last few weeks we’ve been very busy with getting things wrapped up before winter. I must say just in time too. The extended forecast looks to get colder and colder with some of those white flurries possibly. The greens are now closed for the season; we will leave pins in the approaches for those that get an itch to play during the winter.
I and the staff look forward to some relaxing days over the winter to recharge our batteries for next season. Even though the winter is time for relaxation we will remain busy throughout the weeks working on equipment and course accessories. Our mechanics will go through each piece of equipment thoroughly inspecting the condition, change oil, grease, any other maintenance needed, as well as sharpen the blades and reels of all mowers. Course accessories are the other time consuming task as we will repaint all the fairway yardage markers, CDGA plates, ball washers, as well as this year replace all the wooden planks on the benches. Lastly routine course inspections take place to make sure things are looking alright and if anything needs done.
Education and trade shows take place over the winter time as well. I and Moe will attend education seminars to further our knowledge on industry research to keep us up to speed. Orlando, Florida is the site of our National Conference and Trade Show this year which we will attend. Here we will have the opportunity to see all the latest products as well as talk with numerous researchers and vendors about ways to improve the golf course for playability and the environment. Lately the Golf Maintenance Industry is making a push itself to be more “Green” and these will be huge topics of discussion at the National Conference this year.
On a last note I constantly think of different ways to communicate with the membership to help inform as well as educate. I know some really enjoy the information I send out while others it doesn’t really pertain to. I’ve developed an informational page that will have a link under the Grounds and Greens tab on the club website and I think those that enjoy the information passed along will find this quite interesting. I will utilize this page to keep up to date information with tasks and projects as well as to inform the membership of daily conditions. Important matters will still require an email to the entire club but for the most part I want to start directing my information to this site so those that are interested can have it at their finger tips and those that aren’t interested don’t get inundated with useless emails. This will be an evolving project and I think it will come in very handy. As I learn more about this tool of communication I’ll add more to the page. But for now, simplicity is the key. Please visit the page and see what has been taking place.
Best Regards,
Justin
