Turkey Time!!!
I myself didn't come into the club today as I have family in town for the Thanksgiving Holiday. Even though my presence wasn't there Moe pushed along and we accomplished numerous tasks before the rainy weather showed up. Today we finished up with our dormant fertilizer application on the rough. Dormant applications are a huge help during the spring as we never really know what type of weather we can get. Normally, it can be pretty wet which creates some trouble when trying to do spring tasks such as fertilizing. With doing the application now that fertilizer will sit on the surface and break down over the winter and slowly work into the soil, then when the turf becomes active in the spring immediate uptake of that fertilizer will take place. A few other things that took place today as well was, topdressing greens and the dormant fertilizer application to the greens. Again, we used Milorganite, a organic biosolid as it is rich in organic phosphorus as well as the other nutrients. Like I just stated with the rough fertilizer this greens fertilizer will do the same thing, sit on the surface and then be available for uptake in the spring when the turf breaks dormancy. Covers will be going on the greens next week, and that will pretty much signal the end of the season. At the end of the month the Grounds Crew will be cut down to winter staff and we will carry on with our winter duties. I wish everyone a happy and safe holiday weekend!
