Cultural Monday!

Verticutting fairways.  You can see a distinct line where the turf is being stood up after passing through with the machine.

Greens verticut.  This is a picture showing to the left what the turf is like after being verticut and to the right after that verticut turf has been mowed.  Really helps thin the turf but also make the turf more upright in growth.  More upright growth means less friction on the ball meaning better roll.

Here you can see the "runners" the are pulled up on 10 tee after being verticut.  "Runners" are a term that relates to bentgrass which has a creeping habit and produces these "runners" along the ground.  When these are cut you propagate new plants.

Again more "runners".

All in all this past Monday was one of the best not only weather wise but what we were able to accomplish with our turf maintenance.  These cultural practices are necessary to create healthy, durable turf and to get a cool day in mid June where we can accomplish these tasks is a blessing.  Such cultural practices can really stress the turf especially when it is warm.  With the extended weather outlook we have a great week for ample recovery.
Today we plan on finishing up the fairways with verticutting and topdressing.  All that remains is numbers 13, 14, 15, and 16.  All tees, approaches, and greens were finished up yesterday.  Weather permitting we'll have them all done by this afternoon before any chance of rain.
