A Seize Raining!

I've declared a "Seize Raining"!  It just came and came and when it finally ended yesterday the rains topped out at 3.21" since Saturday morning.  It's nice to finally get out on the course to do some work, but very limited tasks.  Our crew has only put in 7 hours since Monday as the rain and wet conditions put a halt to progress.  Bunker work is put on hold here for a while.  The ground throughout the course is to wet for the equipment but the bunkers are also to wet and muddy to do any work.  We are hoping that things dry up today and tomorrow where possibly tomorrow afternoon and Saturday we can get back to work.  Today though the guys are busy mowing bunker banks, trimming heads around the course, and double cutting the greens and approaches.
With the rains as of late conditions weren't favorable to mow.  Things are actually still a bit soft but since it has been 8 days since they were last mowed we needed to get it done.  Tomorrow we'll lower the mowers and cut them again as well as on Saturday.  Cooler temps and the rain haven't allowed us to be a bit more aggressive with cutting heights but looking at the extended forecast we'll be able to next week.  My goal is that next week we'll begin to distinguish the greens from the approaches by mowing them shorter.  Currently we've been mowing everything at the same height.  We'll slowly start bring the greens down tighter and tighter and by the end of next week be down to .190".  Approaches I don't plan on going below .225" for a cutting height or 9/40th's.  Our target height before winter with the greens is .150" or "one hundred and fifty thousandths of an inch".  We've seen great progress over the last few weeks with growth and filling in.  I was a bit concerned with #2 and #5 green but when the covers were removed yesterday that concern disappeared.  There is still some work to be done with some small spot seeding on greens but they are filling in nicely.  Approaches are looking good as well but yet a few spots that need some attention.  A lot of the areas that are behind are areas that stay pretty wet so hopefully when we dry out that seed will pop and things will begin to fill in better.  I know we'll still probably be addressing some areas come next Spring but that is to be expected.  Here are some pics of the greens I took this morning, their getting more full each day!

#16 green and approach filling in nicely along with new bunkers!  The sand has done a tremendous job following 3.21" of rain.
