As October wraps up we try and wrap up a few tasks. about a month back we began some bunker resodding and continue this week. Warmer temperatures had us shift focus back to mowing grass along with leaf clean up. Now that things have cooled we're trying to wrap up the last two bunkers, 7 greenside and 17 left greenside.
Leaf cleanup continues, getting closer to an end. The windy days are knocking leaves down fast and we are working hard at mulching.
We've started our progression to shutting things down for the season. Topdressing frequencies have been picked up on greens trying to get a nice base of sand down around the crown of the plant prior winter. Once we've sprayed all surfaces with our annual winter fungicide application we'll completely cover greens, tees, and approaches with sand. This will help protect turf as well as allow us to incorporate a nice amount of sand into the surface. When growth is initiated in spring we'll let turf grow up through the sand and utilize light brushing to incorporate sand into the canopy better. This helps in turf density as well as helping firm and smooth the putting surfaces.
Looking today we may only have a few mowings left in the season. Basically, one final cleanup prior to fungicide and fertilizer applications. Once the fungicide applications are done around Thanksgiving the course will be closed for the season.
Brace yourself for the wind and I hope any family and friend of yours on the east coast are safe and sound. Prayers go out to everyone dealing with the storm.
