Continued Fall Work

The crew has been working hard these last few windy days and progress is shown.  Over the last few days we've completely stripped and resodded the greenside bunker on 7 as well as the left greenside bunker on 17.  These bunkers are 2 that would show decline come mid-summer as they are southfacing along with a large accumulation of sand on the face.  Throughout our stripping process we've skimmed any accumulated sand from the bunker face to get back to the original surface.  I'm happy with the outcome now it comes down to waiting for the heat to see how the turf responds but I'm confident we'll be pleased.  As we wrapped up 17 this morning we realized we had enough sod left to tackle at least one more.  18 greenside with being in view of the clubhouse and having some thinning turf was a prime candidate so the guys began stripping that this morning.  18 will be finished by the end of the day.
It's always nice to take on things like the bunker resodding but we don't lose sight of other fall tasks.  Currently Jorge and Antonio Vargas are going through and aerifying heavy traffic areas.  Most of these areas are before, at the end, and off the sides of cart paths.  These two veteran employees know which areas to target and are more than likely going to finish the front 9 today.  Course accessories are also being brought in as we see no rivival in the forecast, thus bring an ever so slow closing to the season.  Bringing the accessories in at this time will allow us to stain all the benches and trash cans before putting them away rather than putting them away and then dragging them back out in the winter when we have time to stain.
The weather hasn't been all too pleasant but allowing us to tackle a great deal of work.  I invision us doing some mowing tomorrow, which will probably be the last time.  All greens, tees, approaches, and fairways will get cleaned up here by weeks end and that will be it for the year.  Next week we're planning on going through to cut the rough 1 last time to even things out and clean things up, any other work after that will be mulching leaves.
