Wrapping it Up

Not only are we wrapping up the month of July but needing to wrap ourselves up on these cool mornings.  The last 4-5 days have been on the unseasonable cool side but I won't complain.  Recovery from the warm and humid week is in place and turf looks very happy.
This last weekend we played host to the annual Challenge Cup.  Golf course was in good condition as rain the previous Friday softened things up and we had a few residual dings from the week prior.  July was a very busy month with some sort of event taking place each week so maintenance practices had been slightly put aside.
Yesterday we had a tremendous day!  We made great progress on getting caught up with some items and putting products in place, taking advantage of the current weather.  Our biggest process was reviving the soil and getting moisture where needed.  Unfortunately our irrigation water isn't the best and when used on high frequency we can create a sealing off effect from the soil profile.
Natural rain is the best combatant to clean things up but we also have products to aid when rainfall is t present.  Yesterday applications of gypsum, sulfate of potash, and soil penetrants were used to break through the later.  In conjunction with the products, solid tine aerification and heavy irrigation flush cycles with acid pH of 5.5 were put in place.  We have already seen a response and with the extended forecast that response will only get better.
These next few days we prepare the golf course for the North Shore District matches.  We look forward to host the other clubs and showcasing our golf course.
