weather was a great surprise, normally the hottest weekend of July but instead experience record lows. I myself, not complaining. Residual effects of the weeks prior heat became evident the first part of the week, recovery is in place now.
The week of heat was a challenge, too many weather factors were in play resulting in us tip toeing around practice. The biggest residual effect we have seen is sealed of soil profiles. As the week of heat went on it required us to put down small amount of irrigation at frequent intervals. Unfortunately our irrigation water isn't the cleanest, high salts and bicarbonates affect the soil structure and what water is able to do. You may have notice a few areas on the 4th green as well as the 5th, these spots are results of sealed off soil and water not getting to the roots. Measures have been and will continue to be in place. Wetting agents and surfactants are being used to get water through the profile, and then hold there.solid tine aerification has also been utilized to open up avenues for water to get deeper.
The upcoming week we'll continue to remedy this situation but also prepare the course for the North Shore District event on Thursday.
Hole u had a great weekend and a good week ahead.
