Deep Snow and Freeze

Well, we made it through the recent polarvortex.  I'm using that term since that's what each and every weather analyst was calling our recent cold blast. Since New Years Day we've seen more extremes than recent memory.  Overall 2 snowstorms dumped rough 22" of snow on the golf course then followed by the extreme temperatures.
I'm thankful that we had the snow cover when those brisk temperatures and winds came to our area.  Bare turf and those temps could have set up for some ugliness.  We all stayed inside during the cold and finally got out to take a walk and see how golf course faired today.  Things look good, snow cover is still persistent except for some high knobs.  Some concern comes with areas of ice buried under snow.  Currently we are on about 12 days from ice formation, if we don't see some thaw in the next 7-12 days we'll be proactive and do some ice remedy measures.
Today we sit roughly 80 degrees warmer than Monday, that's if you factor in wind chill.  Over the weekend we are expecting some above freezing temps and rain.  We should see some melt but that could make things a bit messy with all the snow around.  It's a fine line we tread, wouldn't mind seeing some melt but don't want to lose our snow cover.  Never happy!

Thought this last picture was pretty unique.  Smooth bark trees had a frost layer on out side of trunk and branches.
