Preparations

One of the biggest tasks as a Superintendent is preparing.  Preparing for events, weather, or whatever it may be.  This week has been busy with preparations for our annual JUF day but for weather as well.  

For the most part weather has been fairly moderate, this weeks forecast was the first to hint "extremes."  Or probably better said "conducive for disease and stress".  In an effort to prepare for JUF Day and the weather, a special application was made to greens and approaches yesterday.  If you play, you may notice a blue/green color to these areas.  Your eyes aren't playing tricks on you, they are that color.  Yesterday we applied a protectant called TurfScreen (http://turfscreen.com/).  TurfScreen is sunscreen for turf, that's right sunscreen for turf.  This product helps reflect UV rays which can be harmful to the plant.  By using this product we help reduce stress levels to help keep on our daily diet of greens maintenance and not having to back down during extremes.  As the turf grows the product will be removed through mowing and a reapplication will be necessary in about 14 days.
