Frosty End to March

Just pulled up the weather history and last year on this date we had a high of 76.14 degrees!  Where are those temperatures?  Heavy frost this morning preventing us from getting on the course right away.  Frost does allow us to get our cleaning done so we're cleaning up the barn along number 5 this morning.  A big day is planned for us when we can finally get outside.  On the slate is mowing greens, topdressing greens, rolling greens, mowing fairways, as well as doing some spot fertilization on areas where the turf has thinned under heavily tree'd areas.  Our goal is to get all this wrapped up today as tomorrow they are calling for rain/snow, such a perfect way to start April!  Despite the cold weather here in March I'm not all to disappointed.  Even though the weather has been cold we've been able to get a lot of the spring cleanup completed.  Guys have been working on raking up branches over the last couple of weeks with only a few holes to go.  Other spring cleanup work was burning the natural grass areas, cleaning up landscape beds along with edging, and edging bunkers.  All this stuff is pretty much finished minus a few tallgrass areas yet to be burnt, just waiting for the proper wind direction.  I anticipate next week with warmer temperatures we'll get a nice southwest breeze that will allow us to finish the burning.
It looks as though we are still on track for opening up next week.  With rain/snow in the forecast tomorrow along with cool temps and more rain over the weekend, conditions won't be favorable.  I greatly anticipate the day of putting the pins in the greens!

14 Fairway from my office.  Heavy frost this morning delaying our start to the day.
