Water World!

Heavy blasts of rain just took over the club during the last hour.  So far throughout this morning we have recorded 1.3" of rain and the course shows it.  The rain came down so fast in such a short period of time that a great deal of it is running over ground to where ever the lowest spot is at.  Just finished up a ride around the course to asses what we have ahead of us but to also look at some drainage projects that we've worked on and if they accomplished what we were hoping for.  Below are some pictures to see how things were just a few minutes ago:

This is our irrigation satelite boxes for holes 14 and 15.  Water is part way up these devices and I hope that no electrical components have been harmed due to the high water.

This is the greenside bunker on 15.  So much water comes to this area from 15 fairway, 16 fairway, and from the 13th that this area just floods.  We have some work to do to help control this issue.

These two picture illustrate the flow that comes across 17 at the beginning of the fairway.

A few weeks back I posted pictures of the work we did to the right hand greenside bunker on 12.  We raised the backside of it to prevent water from running directly through the bunker and making it wash out.  Below are two pictures of the same bunker, one from before we raised the backside and the second from today after the heavy rain.

This is a picture of the same bunker after 1.25" of rain in 30 minutes.  We accomplished what we had hoped.  The water didn't wash the bunker out!

Long days are ahead for us to get the course back into shape.  As of now the course is closed for the remainder of the day and we'll reassess tomorrow.  With the holiday weekend we want the course to be in the best possible condition for you and your guests.  I anticipate tomorrow we'll be pumping water from the bunkers and hopefully by Friday we'll be able to mow.  If no mowing can be done on Friday we'll be looking at Saturday, Sunday, and Monday mornings for trying to get caught up on mowing.
