Ideal Conditions

Wow, what a Wednesday morning!  Ideal weather has brought cultural practices to the forefront and necessary for some recovery from last week.

Greens conditioning continues with a double cut and some topdressing today. Weather and event last week prevented us from staying on our grooming rotation so we are getting caught up this week.  Conditions for the Challenge Cup this weekend should be outstanding.  Right now the guys are working through the course mowing greens and being followed by a light layer of sand.  This sand will help fill grooves from verticut yesterday.  Once sand is spread we'll bring out the rollers to get things settled in a but more.  Normally we'd drag but with the greens still slightly soft from Mondays needle tine and accumulated rain we are minimizing traffic.

Elias and Abel splitting the 6th greens mowing this morning.

Jorge and Ramon splitting the topdressing duties.  We began topdressing greens by hand last season for accuracy and smoothness of greens.

Temperatures we are experience right now were much needed.
Last week things got warm, with high humidity we limited our water applications and then Friday we were blast furnaced (high temp, high winds, and low humidity).  Some damage did occur and it is frustrating to see, but I'm sure if I had pulled carts on a warm dry day people would have said I'm insane.  I've been td I'm too cautious, but yet that's my job, protect our biggest asset.  Friday I went against my cautious nature and here are the results:
Areas around the course were dry and stressed.  As cart traffic went through these areas turf damage occurred.  Most areas will recover although will take some time, for the time being we'll have to stomach the look and repair if needed.
