Greens Conditioning

Greens conditioning continued today.  Yesterday was needle tine aerification, today was verticutting.  Each process has its own benefits and each is an absolute necessity to maintain quality putting surfaces.
Verticutting has a couple of benefits, one is the remove thatch (organic matter, dead roots, plant tissue, etc...), the other is to remove elongated material and get to a finer turf.  It's been a few weeks since our last verticutting so we were due, especially after the heat and humidity of last week.  All 18 greens were completed today, the next step will be an light application of topdressing.  Topdressing will help mitigate the thatch layer and return a smooth putting surface.

Photo shows putting surface immediately after verticut unit went over.

Photo shows Jesus mowing the green following the verticutting.  This helps clean up material that is left upright after verticut.  The middle area has been mowed while outsides have not.
