Relief

As I sit on the patio here at the club I couldn't be happier with where things are.  This last week was a tough one, challenging weather conditions along with lots of play.  Heat and humidity creates it own challenges that we proactively prepare for, the thing we weren't prepared for was yesterday's weather.
When weather is hot and humid we try our best to limit the amount of water applied to the golf course.  We are very cautious with timing and amount, if not careful it's like throwing fuel on a fire.  As the week went on and the humidity stayed high and we continued to add just enough moisture to cool the plant, syringing the turf rather than actually "watering".  This came up to bite us Friday as the low soil moisture accelerated the drying out as the sun warmed and wind picked up.  Lots of sprinklers were used later in the day as well as crew members dragging hose hitting hot spots, and for the most part we kept up.
Later Friday, temperatures dropped and we received a small amount of natural rainfall.  Even with the rain we still fired up the irrigation to add a great deal of water to replenish the soil for the cool days ahead.
